AFSCME Local 977 represents over 1000 clerical and general services workers at HCMC. Clerical employees include Office Specialists, Secretaries, Clerks, Patient Service Coordinators, Credit/Collections Representatives, and Public Services Assistants. General Services employees are the hospital’s Cooks, Food Service Workers, Environmental Services Workers, Facilities Maintenance Workers, Stock Clerks, Health Care Assistants, and Nursing Assistants.
As provided for under the National Labor Relations Act, there are two possible
levels of involvement in Local 977. Full members are entitled to participate in
policy and decision making by voting at meetings, serving as stewards or
members-at-large, and running for office. Contact an officer if you are
interested in signing up for full membership or would like more information.
The
contract is your primary document to become familiar with in order to
understand the union/management relationship. Clerical and General Services
have separate contracts, but they are identical on all major subjects.
