Welcome to the website for AFSCME Local 977, representing employees of Hennepin
County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The purpose of this site is to
provide basic information including contacts and meeting times as well as a
general explanation of how the union functions.
The advantages of union membership are well established. Justice and fairness
do not happen automatically, and achievement of the best wages, benefits, and
working conditions possible is not simply the result of management generosity.
It is the member's responsibility to learn what being in a union means for
their own security and confidence, for the good of their coworkers, and for
achieving the best overall workplace.
There are many legal protections and privileges for union members that most
people are unaware of. Each member should at a minimum know their rights and
what the union can do for them to ensure a legal and fair relationship with
management. Empowerment means taking the initiative to become informed and to
participate by finding out who your officers and other official contacts are,
networking with them and other members, and doing your part in taking
collective action to achieve the best possible contract and otherwise to
correct or improve all manner of workplace issues and conditions.

list of all Local 977 members. If that person is present, they will win at
least $25. If not the total amount is added to the next month's prize. Your
name could be next! General meetings are held every third Wednesday at 4:00
p.m. in the Cafeteria Conference Room. |
